President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned what he called “a terrorist war against life” after Russia launched one of its most massive overnight attacks in months, firing more than 650 drones and over 50 missiles of various types – including ballistic and aero-ballistic weapons – across Ukraine.

“Many were shot down, but unfortunately, there were hits,” Zelensky said in his morning address on Thursday, adding that emergency and rescue operations were underway in multiple regions following widespread destruction.

In Zaporizhzhia, residential buildings were damaged and a dormitory destroyed. Authorities reported dozens of injuries, including five children, and at least two deaths. A seven-year-old boy in Ladyzhyn was among those seriously wounded.

The attacks also targeted critical energy infrastructure, disrupting electricity and water supplies across Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv, Sumy, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv regions.

Zelensky said all relevant services were working to restore power and water “as quickly as possible.”

Zelensky urged Ukraine’s allies to respond with stronger sanctions and “real pressure” on Moscow, including measures against Russia’s oil and gas sector, its financial system, and secondary sanctions targeting those who continue to fund the war.

“We expect that America, Europe, and the G7 will not ignore Moscow’s desire to destroy everything,” he said. “Every such vile attack on civilians must return to Russia with concrete consequences.”

The overnight assault marked another phase in Russia’s ongoing campaign against Ukraine’s civilian and energy infrastructure, heightening fears of renewed blackouts as winter nears.
