Welcome to our live coverage of US politics and the events in Gaza.
The day has brought major developments in Israel and Gaza, where one of the war’s most sensitive issues has seen movement on both sides.
After two years of anguish, all 20 hostages believed to be alive have now been released. They emerged in two groups, with seven freed earlier in the morning and 13 later in the day.
The return of the bodies of those who did not survive remains unresolved.
Large-scale prisoner releases are also underway. More than 1,700 detainees from Gaza and around 250 Palestinian prisoners are expected to be freed.
Vans believed to be carrying them were seen outside Ofer prison in Israel earlier, and hospitals in Gaza are preparing for the influx of returnees.
Beyond the exchanges, international attention has turned to Jerusalem. US President Donald Trump has arrived at Israel’s parliament, where he is set to deliver a speech.
