Before the meeting, Modi praised the"special and privileged strategic partnership" with Moscow."India and Russia have stood shoulder to shoulder even in the most difficult situations," Modi said.

Commenting on the war in Ukraine, Modi said that India wants both sides to end it as soon as possible and achieve a stable peace.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries signed a declaration today pledging to strengthen cooperation in sectors such as security and the economy, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported. The countries also decided to grant Laos the status of a dialogue partnership country.

Putin arrived in Tianjin on Sunday with a high-ranking delegation of politicians and businessmen and is scheduled to attend a military parade in Beijing on Wednesday to mark the end of World War II. Many other foreign leaders, including North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, are also expected to attend the parade.
