Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. He handed him the letter he sent to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which awards the prize to people who work for peace, yesterday at the White House.

"I want to express the appreciation and admiration — not only of all Israelis, but of the Jewish people and many admirers around the world — for your leadership, your leadership of the free world, your leadership of the just cause and the pursuit of peace and security that you are leading on the continent, but now particularly in the Middle East," Netanyahu said ahead of a dinner at the White House.

"He is forging peace right now in one country, one region after another," the Israeli prime minister continued."So I want to give you, Mr. President, the letter that I sent to the Nobel Committee. The letter nominates you for the Nobel Peace Prize, which you deserve, and you should get it."

"Thank you very much, I didn't know that. Wow," said President Trump, flanked by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio."That certainly means a lot coming from you. Thank you very much, Bibi."

Ceasefire in Gaza

Netanyahu had come to Washington to discuss a ceasefire in Gaza, the third time since Trump became president again. According to the latter, the negotiations are going smoothly."I don't think there is a blockade. I think it's all going very well." He says he is convinced that Hamas is prepared to lay down its arms."They want a meeting, they want that ceasefire."

US envoy Steve Witkoff is traveling to Doha, Qatar this week, where indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas are taking place under the mediation of Qatar and Egypt.
