The Israeli Defense Minister officially announces the assassination of Abu Obeida in Gaza.

Sunday, August 31

Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz officially announced Sunday evening the assassination of Abu Obeida, spokesman for the Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas resistance movement.

He wrote in a post on his official page on the X platform: Congratulations to the Israeli army and the General Security Service (Shabak) on the skillful assassination.

He vowed to eliminate more Hamas members soon, as the military campaign against Gaza intensifies.

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the army had targeted the Qassam Brigades' military spokesman, Abu Obeida, and indicated that he was awaiting the results of the attack.

He added during a cabinet meeting on Sunday:"The army attacked the spokesman for the evil, Abu Obeida, and we are awaiting the results. Hamas' statement is late, perhaps because no one has clarified the matter."

An Israeli army spokesman announced yesterday, Saturday, that a prominent Hamas figure had been targeted in Gaza.

Avichay Adraee wrote on the X platform that the army attacked a key Hamas operative in the Gaza City area in the northern Gaza Strip via aircraft.

Israeli media reported that the target of the Gaza strike was Abu Obeida, spokesman for the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, and indicated that there was a 95% chance of success in the assassination.

Israel's Channel 12 reported that initial information about his whereabouts was received yesterday evening, and that the raid was carried out at 5:30 p.m. that evening.

The channel quoted a senior Israeli official as saying:"If Abu Ubaida was in the targeted building, there is no possibility that he survived the assassination attempt this time."

For his part, a Palestinian source reported to Al Arabiya and Al Hadath channels on Sunday morning that the spokesman for the Al Qassam Brigades had been killed.

The Palestinian source confirmed that Israel targeted an apartment where the Qassam spokesman was located, and that the Israeli bombing resulted in the deaths of everyone present in the apartment.

The source indicated that members of Abu Obeida's family and Qassam Brigades leaders confirmed his death after examining the body.
