The Israeli military on Sunday carried out airstrikes on several targets in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. In a statement, Israel indicated that the bombardment was in response to an earlier airstrike by the Houthis on Israel on Friday.

The Israeli attack targeted, among other things, a military complex that also houses the presidential palace. Power plants and a fuel storage facility were also targets. Footage from Sanaa shows a huge fireball and multiple smoke plumes.

Since the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent war in the Gaza Strip, Yemen's Houthi rebels have carried out several attacks. They claim to be doing so out of sympathy for the Palestinians. Ships in the Red Sea have been targeted, among other places. The rebels have also fired rockets into Israel, most of which were intercepted. The Houthis are backed by Iran.
