The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has summoned the Spanish ambassador in Tel Aviv, Ana María Solomon, for consultations in response to the"slanderous accusations against Spain and the unacceptable measures" against ministers Yolanda Díaz and Sira Rego.
Spain's response is due to the accusation of"anti-Semitism" made by Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet and the entry ban imposed on the second vice president and minister of labor and social economy and the minister of youth and children.
This was reported by sources from the Ministry after the Netanyahu Government responded to the package of measures to stop the" genocide" in Gaza announced by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, denouncing that it is an attempt to"distract attention" from the corruption scandals and announcing sanctions against Díaz and Sira Rego.
Specifically, the government's minority partner has declared that he was not satisfied with the package of measures and demanded the withdrawal of the Spanish ambassador in Tel Aviv, thus signaling the severance of diplomatic relations with the Jewish nation.
Previously, Albares's department issued a statement in which the government"strongly" rejected the "false and slanderous accusations of anti-Semitism by the Israeli government toward Spain and the Spanish people," as well as the "unacceptable entry ban" on two members of the Spanish government from entering Israel.
All this comes after President Sánchez announced new measures against Israel early this morning to force an end to the"genocide" in Palestine.
The Executive argued that the measures regarding the inhumane situation in Gaza and the West Bank"respond to the majority sentiment of Spanish society and are adopted within the framework of its sovereignty and in coherence with its defense of peace, human rights and international legality."
Recalling an ambassador for consultations is one of the most serious forms of protest in the diplomatic sphere, and can sometimes lead to the withdrawal of the highest official in the diplomatic mission.
