Fort Stewart in Georgia is under lockdown, according to a police spokesman, who confirmed that there have been shots fired.
A spokesman for the military base's police department did not provide further details. However, the verified Facebook page for Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield said:"There are casualties reported and the situation is ongoing."
The facility was locked down at 11:04 a.m. and law enforcement is currently on scene, the post said.
The U.S. Army's Fort Stewart trains and deploys active and reserve Army units and is home to the 3rd Infantry Division. It is located approximately 40 miles southwest of Savannah, Georgia.
More than 10,000 people – soldiers, family members and civilian employees of the military – reside on the base.
