Ukraine must receive such a package of security guarantees that Russia will be afraid to launch a second attack.
This was stated by Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Finance of Germany Lars Klingbeil to journalists before negotiations with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"I want to clearly state that we are now at the beginning of a discussion on security guarantees. And I am glad that we have come this far, that the Americans have given a clear signal that they are also ready to provide security guarantees. And now it is a question of determining, first of all, with our Ukrainian friends, how to do this correctly. As a result, there should be a package that gives Ukraine such guarantees that Russia will not attack again, so that Russia is afraid to attack Ukraine again," Klingbeil noted.
According to him, he will also discuss with President Zelensky today what such security guarantees could be.
The Vice Chancellor also emphasized that Germany will contribute to Ukraine having a strong army and defense industry.
"And what President Zelensky said - the question (of) how we will get a strong Ukrainian army, how we will get a strong defense production in Ukraine - these are the two areas that we will focus on. We will discuss and resolve all other issues in the government at the appropriate time. But at the end there is a clear commitment, I want to say this again to the President: Germany will take responsibility for our Ukrainian friends, because it is right and we are also clearly convinced that our freedom and security are also being protected here. That is why Germany, as in the last 3.5 years, will take responsibility," the Vice Chancellor of Germany emphasized.
As Ukrinform reported, Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Finance of Germany Lars Klingbeil arrived on a visit to Kyiv and assured of continued unwavering support for Ukraine.
