Reiterating her condemnation of the “cowardly” and “vile” murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo assured that the case will not go unpunished, and expressed her condolences to the family and loved ones, adding that the people of Michoacán will not be left alone.

In her morning press conference this Monday, November 3, at the National Palace, Sheinbaum Pardo accused the opposition of being “vultures” in the case and blamed the “war on drugs” waged by former PAN president Felipe Calderón.

He indicated that investigations are ongoing by the Michoacán Prosecutor's Office, with support from the federal government, in addition to the arrests made at the time of the attack against Manzo.

“There will be no impunity; we will continue all investigations until we can find all those responsible, not just those responsible for the materials,” he said.

“There will be no impunity,” Sheinbaum reiterates regarding the murder of Mayor Carlos Manzo; “the war on drugs did not work.”

She stated that “the strength of the State is justice” and to those who call for militarization and war, the federal President said that “that doesn’t work”: “It was what led to the situation of violence in Michoacán.”

Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted her security strategy, zero impunity, justice and attention to the causes, as well as presence and intelligence.

“What does the right wing propose? A war on drugs? The return of García Luna? Intervention? That leads nowhere. We are going to reinforce Michoacán and other states, but by strengthening our presence, intelligence, and zero impunity,” the President declared.

He accuses the right wing of being"vultures"

In the Treasury Room, he accused the right wing and the establishment of launching a barrage of attacks over the murder:"At no point did I hear a single condolence to the family, but they were there like vultures."

“They forgot history, the war on drugs,” he said, reiterating his rejection of intervention because Mexico is a free, independent, and sovereign country.

“We will continue working to defend peace and justice, we will never give up,” declared Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
