The situation was commented on in an interview with Interia by Karolina Gałecka, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Interior and Administration.

"We are fully coordinated and receiving ongoing information from the Armed Forces Command. First and foremost, I would like to reassure you that we, as a state, are vigilant, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Armed Forces and Air Force Command, so that you and all citizens can feel safe," the spokeswoman said.

- From what the military informs, these are only preventive measures - she added.

"Due to the operation of Russian unmanned aerial vehicles near the Polish border, the operational commander decided to scramble helicopters and fighter jets. We are in constant contact with our allies. Please follow the announcements of the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces and the Government Security Center," Tomczyk wrote on the X website.

Due to the threat, alarm sirens sounded in several cities in the Lublin region.

"Due to the threat from the air, an order has been issued to activate warning sirens in Chełm. Please remain calm and follow the official announcements of the RCB," appealed the city's mayor, Jakub Banaszek.

The alarm was also triggered in Świdnik."Due to the threat from the air, an order was issued to activate warning sirens in Świdnik. Please remain calm and follow the official announcements of the RCB," said Mayor Marcin Dmowski.

The military scrambled fighter jets. The Lublin airport was closed.

After 4 p.m., the Operational Command of the Armed Forces announced that"due to the threat of unmanned aerial vehicle strikes in the regions of Ukraine bordering the Republic of Poland, military aviation operations in our airspace have begun."

"In order to ensure the security of our airspace, the Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces has activated all necessary procedures. Polish and allied aircraft are operating in our airspace, and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have reached the highest state of readiness," the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said. The military emphasized that these actions are"preventive in nature."

Before 7 p.m. the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces announced that"the operation of Polish and allied aviation in our airspace has been terminated".

The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency informed that"due to military aviation operations, the Lublin airport and the controlled zone around the airport were closed to air operations."

"The Lublin airport resumed flight operations after the end of military aviation operations," we read in a new message from 6:40 p.m.

During the Russian Federation's overnight attack on Ukraine on Tuesday night, Polish airspace was repeatedly violated by drones. Those that posed a direct threat were shot down by Polish and allied aircraft. Due to the incident, an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council was organized on Friday at Poland's request.
