Escalatory Rhetoric and Threats

Washington. President Donald Trump said Monday that U.S. forces carried out an attack on a Venezuelan drug cartel vessel heading to the United States.

He claimed, without offering evidence, that three men died in the attack, adding that the incident occurred in international waters.

"This morning, at my direction, the United States Armed Forces conducted a Second Strike against extremely violent and positively identified drug cartels and narco-terrorists in the Southern Command area of responsibility," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

"These extremely violent drug cartels pose a threat to the national security, foreign policy, and vital interests of the United States," he added.

“We Are Hunting Them Down! The illicit activities of these cartels have had devastating consequences on American communities for decades, killing millions of American citizens. No More! Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!” he added.

This attack follows another military strike on the 2nd against what the Trump administration says was a speedboat transporting drugs from Venezuela, which killed 11 people.
