Yermak is described by the media as one of the most influential people in Ukrainian politics. It has been rocked by a corruption scandal in Ukrainian energy, which has already led to the resignation of two ministers and the opposition is demanding the resignation of the entire government. Yermak has so far led a team negotiating with the United States about Washington's plan to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
"I want no one to have any doubts about Ukraine. Therefore, today we are making the following internal decisions. First, the Office of the President of Ukraine will be reorganized. The head of the Office, Andriy Yermak, has written a request for dismissal," Zelensky said in an evening speech published on social networks.
The president explained that at a time when all attention is focused on diplomatic efforts to achieve peace and on war, Ukraine's internal strength and unity are essential, and therefore there must be no reason to divert attention to anything other than the country's defense, and partners abroad must not have doubts about Ukraine either. Zelensky thanked Yermak and added that he did not want any rumors and speculation.
The new leader plans to discuss the matter with potential candidates for the position on Saturday.
