On June 7, 2025, Miguel Uribe Turbay, a presidential candidate and senator for the Democratic Center, was the victim of an attack that resulted in his death on August 11, 2025.

Authorities captured the hitman, a minor, who was detained at the crime scene and taken to the Attorney General's Office bunker to face justice and reveal details about the other suspects involved in the crime.

After several months of investigation, the attacker was sentenced to seven years in prison for the murder of the congressman, along with conspiracy to commit a crime and illegal possession of weapons. According to the judge, he will be placed at the disposal of the Colombian Family Welfare Institute (ICBF). The sentence imposed was determined by the Adolescent Criminal Responsibility System.

"After assessing the evidence provided by the Attorney General's Office and the voluntary acceptance of charges during the arraignment hearing, a judge from the Adolescent Criminal Responsibility System (SRPA) sentenced the minor who shot Senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay on June 7 in the Modelia neighborhood of Fontibón, in western Bogotá," the prosecutor's office explained in a statement.

And he added:"The decision specifies that the minor must remain deprived of liberty for seven years in a specialized care center."

In addition to confessing his responsibility for the assassination, Alias Tianz admitted to the crimes he was charged with a week after the presidential candidate's death.

During the arraignment hearing held on August 4, the young man pleaded guilty to attempted homicide and the manufacture, trafficking, carrying, or possession of firearms, accessories, parts, or ammunition. Seven days later, Senator and pre-candidate Uribe Turbay died. The sanction is a first-instance sanction, and legal remedies are available against him. This process was followed in accordance with the parameters defined in the Adolescent Criminal Responsibility System.

The minor explained how he was contacted and given the weapon he used to shoot Uribe Turbay.

“During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the young man was contacted and convinced to carry out the armed attack. He was summoned to the Modelia neighborhood and, aboard a car driven by Carlos Eduardo Mora González, received a 9mm Glock pistol from Elder José Arteaga Hernández, alias Chipi. He then got out of the vehicle, walked to El Golfito Park where the victim was participating in a political rally, and shot him.”

The defendant's statements were crucial in the capture of the other defendants: Carlos Eduardo Mora, alias El Veneco; Katerine Andrea Martínez, alias Gabriela; William Fernando González; Cristian Camilo González; and Elder José Arteaga, known as El Costeño and alleged logistical coordinator of the hit.
