The meeting reportedly took place at 4 p.m. Lithuanian time and lasted about 40-50 minutes.

During the meeting, Trump said that"something needs to be done about Ukraine" because the situation there is "totally out of control," Bloomberg news agency reports.

According to a source cited by the news agency, Trump made the statement despite an"apparent lack of enthusiasm" about the meeting with Zelensky.

Although the US president did not go into details, his words were understood"as a positive sign of the US president's commitment to Ukraine."

A source in the Ukrainian presidency told AFP that Zelensky was "satisfied" with what was discussed.

This is the first meeting between the US and Ukrainian leaders in two months. Trump and Zelensky last met at the Vatican, where Pope Francis' funeral was held in April.

V. Zelensky's first reaction

Zelensky briefly commented on his meeting with US President Donald Trump, noting that he would provide more details later. He wrote about this on his Telegram channel.

"A long and meaningful meeting with President Trump. We discussed all the really important issues. Thank you Mr. President, thank you to the United States," noted V. Zelensky.

According to him, the conversation focused mainly on the possibility of a ceasefire and the pursuit of genuine peace, as well as the protection of people in Ukraine.

"We appreciate the attention and desire to help bring peace closer," the Ukrainian leader added.
