Israeli Military Operations and Ground Assault

Arab countries and regional organizations condemned the large-scale military operation launched by the Israeli army early Tuesday morning, which included a ground incursion and heavy bombardment to seize control of Gaza City. They asserted that it constitutes an"extension of the genocidal war" against the Palestinian people and a "flagrant violation" of international law.

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit warned in a statement on Wednesday of"the serious consequences of the Israeli occupation's expansion of its ground offensive on Gaza City," stressing that "the attack represents a new and extremely dangerous episode in the genocide Israel has been waging in Gaza for two years."

Aboul Gheit condemned the international community's failure to curb Israel, denouncing its efforts to force Palestinians to leave their homeland through killing and starvation.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Al-Budaiwi, condemned the"brutal" incursion into the Gaza Strip by Israeli forces and the accompanying "horrific crimes" against the Palestinian people.

Al-Badawi warned that the international community's silence and inaction in fulfilling its responsibilities encourages Israel to persist in its practices, calling for immediate and effective international action"to halt these violations and hold the perpetrators of these crimes accountable before international courts."

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s condemnation in the strongest terms of the Israeli occupation forces’ incursions into the Gaza Strip and their continued perpetration of crimes against the brotherly Palestinian people, in light of the international community’s failure to take effective measures to put an end to this criminal approach based on violations of international law and international humanitarian law.”

Saudi Arabia warned of the danger of continuing the"bloody Israeli approach" against the Gaza Strip and its residents, calling on the permanent members of the Security Council to take immediate decisions to halt the"Israeli killing, starvation, and displacement machine" against the Palestinian people.

For its part, Qatar condemned the large-scale Israeli operation to seize control of Gaza City, noting that it constitutes an extension of the"genocidal" war against the brotherly Palestinian people and a "flagrant violation" of international law.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry affirmed in a statement today: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns that the Israeli occupation seeks to undermine the chances of peace in the region through systematic plans that pose a threat to regional and international peace and security, including its brutal war of genocide in Gaza, and its settlement, colonial, and racist policies based on the logic of arrogance, aggression, and treachery. This requires decisive international solidarity to compel it to comply with international legitimacy resolutions.”

Kuwait also condemned the ground military operation launched by Israeli forces, warning against continued Israeli behavior.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry stressed"the need for the Security Council to assume its responsibilities and put an end to this blatant aggression by the occupying forces, and to immediately halt the policies of starvation, displacement, and genocide pursued by the occupying government targeting the defenseless Palestinian people."

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Tuesday that the launch of the Israeli military operation in Gaza City reflects Israel's insistence on pursuing a "reckless policy," warning that the region is on the cusp of a new phase of "total chaos" as a result of "Israeli recklessness."

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement: "Egypt warns of the catastrophic risks posed by Israeli military operations in the region, which is on the cusp of a new phase of total chaos as a result of Israeli recklessness and blatant arrogance, which will inevitably harm the interests of all regional and international parties without exception."

At dawn on Tuesday, Israel launched an intensive military operation in Gaza City, including a ground incursion and heavy bombardment. Israel said the operation's goal was to seize control of Gaza and eliminate Hamas.

Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said earlier on Twitter that “Gaza is burning,” adding that the Israeli army is “strike[ing] the terrorist infrastructure with an iron fist, and its soldiers are fighting bravely to create the conditions for the release of the hostages and the defeat of Hamas.” He added, “We will not relent or retreat—until the mission is completed.”

The intense Israeli attack on Gaza came a day after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Israel, during which he affirmed US support for Israel and warned Hamas that it had"only a few days" to agree to a ceasefire agreement with Israel.

The Israeli military issued evacuation warnings for Gaza City, amid warnings from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) that there is no safe haven for the city's displaced.

A UN report accused Israeli authorities of committing"genocide" in the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of the massive war on the territory following the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.

The UN report stated that President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant incited"genocide" in Gaza, while Israel described the UN report as"false and based on Hamas narratives."

It is noteworthy that the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a global hunger monitoring observatory, announced on August 22 that Gaza City and the surrounding areas are suffering from a famine that will likely spread to other areas of the Gaza Strip within a short period. Israel described this report as"false and flawed."

On March 2, Israel closed Gaza's crossings to the entry of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid into the Strip, causing an unprecedented deterioration in the humanitarian situation. The World Health Organization warned that malnutrition in the Gaza Strip had reached"alarming levels."

Israel resumed its bombing of the Gaza Strip on March 18, following a pause of approximately two months, specifically since the ceasefire agreement with Hamas took effect on January 19. This pause followed a breakdown in talks to extend the first phase of the agreement or move to its second phase.

For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the Gaza Strip was witnessing a"humanitarian catastrophe," while the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized the need to end the war in Gaza and launch Palestinian-Israeli negotiations aimed at achieving a two-state solution with the establishment of an independent Palestinian state coexisting in peace and security with Israel.
