NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte fully supported President Donald Trump's call for Ukraine and Russia to"stop where they are," he said in a statement to reporters.

According to him, this is a simple but necessary message to start real negotiations.

"The President [Donald Trump - UNIAN] made it absolutely clear this weekend - stop where you are. It sounds simple, but of course that's exactly what's needed," Rutte said.

He noted that he completely agrees with Trump.

"Stop where you are - that's the main message. And again, we will continue the dialogue this afternoon, and I am here to help him do everything that NATO can do - myself personally, the Permanent Representative, all of us - to help him realize this vision," the Secretary General added.

Possibility of stopping at the front line

It was previously reported that Europe supports Trump's position on an immediate cessation of hostilities and that the current contact line should be the starting point for negotiations.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the Russian Federation's negotiating line regarding the halting of troops in Ukraine at existing positions remains unchanged.
