The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Monday described Spain's decision to impose an arms embargo on Israel and ban entry into Spain for those directly involved in the genocide in the Gaza Strip as an important political and moral step.

We applaud the Spanish government's decision to prohibit arms exports to the Israeli occupation and close Spanish ports to ships transporting weapons and military systems (to Israel), the Palestinian Islamist group said in a statement, according to the newspaper 'Filastin'.

Thus, he stated that this is an important political and moral step in international efforts to halt the genocidal war, famine, and displacement perpetrated against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, referring to the offensive unleashed by Israel against the enclave following the attacks of October 7, 2023.

We call on all countries exporting arms to the fascist entity to take similar steps, in parallel with increasing all forms of political, economic, and legal pressure against the criminal occupation to force it to stop its horrific massacres against civilians in the Gaza Strip, which constitute a flagrant defiance of international will and humanitarian norms and laws, he concluded.

Spanish President Pedro Sánchez announced early Monday a package of measures to stop the genocide in Gaza, to pursue its perpetrators and to support the Palestinian population. These measures include the approval of a decree law to formalize the arms embargo on Israel and a ban on entry into Spain for those who directly participate in the genocide.

In response, the Government of Israel has denounced this as an attempt to distract attention from the alleged corruption scandals within the Spanish government and has announced sanctions against the third vice president, Yolanda Díaz, and the Minister of Youth, Sira Rego, considering that they have crossed any red line with their criticism of the Israeli authorities.
