High-resolution images taken by Maxar Technologies on June 22, 2025, show six new crater marks, likely impact points from U.S. munitions. Also visible is a grayish, dusty hillside littered with debris and dust from the explosions.

The US has used bombs specifically designed for this type of strike – the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP). This powerful aerial bomb is designed to penetrate deeply fortified targets and detonate inside them.

Stu Ray, senior video analyst at McKenzie Intelligence Services, explained to the BBC:"You won't see a huge explosion at the point of entry because this bomb doesn't explode immediately - it goes off deep inside the object."

Ray said it appeared that three separate charges were used, fired in two directions of impact. He also said the grayish hue of the surface likely represents concrete debris blown away by the explosions.

Ray noted that the entrances to the underground tunnels appeared to be blocked.

It is not yet clear how much damage the strikes caused to the nuclear facility itself. In the days leading up to the previously reported attack, Iran appears to have taken steps to prepare for it.
