Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner in the US Open final and returns to the top of the world rankings

Monday, September 8

It is Alcaraz's second trophy at Flushing Meadows and the sixth Grand Slam title of his career.

The match marked the third consecutive Grand Slam final played between the two young rivals, already considered dominant in men's tennis.

With this success, Alcaraz will once again take over the world number 1 spot from Sinner and now leads 10-5 in head-to-head matches and 6-4 in the number of major trophies.

The final was delayed by about half an hour due to additional security checks due to the presence of the US President. Donald Trump was greeted with a mix of applause and boos, becoming the first sitting president to attend the US Open since Bill Clinton in 2000.

Under the roof pulled down due to the rain, Alcaraz controlled the match from the start and took revenge after the defeat suffered in July at Wimbledon.

Alcaraz (22 years old) and Sinner (24 years old) have won the last eight Grand Slam trophies together, 10 of the last 13, in a period in which only Novak Djokovic managed to interrupt their dominance.
