Prime Minister Viktor Orbán reacted to Volodymyr Zelensky's statement in Brussels, in which he criticized the Hungarian government on several occasions. The Hungarian Prime Minister made his position known, emphasizing that Hungary has provided significant support to Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
Viktor Orbán highlighted that more than 14 million border crossings have taken place from Ukraine, three Ukrainian schools operate in the country, they have taken on a role in caring for wounded soldiers and children, and more than ten thousand Ukrainian children have been camped in Hungary. He also highlighted the training of Hungarian medical personnel, the reconstruction of Ukrainian schools and kindergartens, and support for energy supply. According to the Prime Minister, around 200 million euros have been spent on humanitarian purposes so far.
I must reject the suggestion that Hungary owes Ukraine anything
– wrote the Prime Minister. He added that Ukraine does not protect Hungary, and that Hungarian security is guaranteed exclusively by NATO and national defense capabilities. According to the Prime Minister, Hungary does not support Ukraine's membership in the European Union. According to his reasoning, EU accession would"bring war into Europe" and take Hungarian taxpayers' money to Ukraine.
Péter Szijjártó also reacted to the Ukrainian President's statement, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade,"as long as there is a national government in Hungary, our country will not contribute to Ukraine's accelerated accession to the European Union."
Volodymyr Zelensky says Hungarians support Ukrainians
The prime minister's reaction came after Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine should not make concessions to Viktor Orbán in order for Hungary to lift its blockade of the country's EU accession talks. Instead, he said, Hungary should offer Ukraine something - especially in light of Ukraine's"defense of the entire continent" against Russian aggression.

Zelensky spoke in a video message at the European Union enlargement conference in Brussels, where he was asked what compromise he would be willing to make with the Hungarian prime minister. However, the Ukrainian president made it clear that he did not want to make his values a subject of negotiation.
He is convinced that state leaders do not have the right to think only about themselves and the elections, and it is important to maintain good neighborly relations. He added that Ukraine should not trade its values. According to the president, he is a friend of the Hungarian people, and Hungarians support the Ukrainians.
