On Saturday morning, President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump held a lengthy phone conversation.

Zelensky said the call was long and substantive, beginning one-on-one before European leaders joined. It lasted over 90 minutes, with about an hour spent privately.

According to him, Trump informed him about his meeting with the Russian leader Vladimir Putin and the main points of their discussion. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is ready to work as productively as possible for the sake of peace and supports Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting.

Zelensky said key issues should be discussed at the level of national leaders.

“All the details on ending the killings, on ending the war, I plan to discuss with President Trump in Washington on Monday. I am grateful for the invitation,” Zelensky said.

The call was initiated by Trump and included leaders of key NATO member states. Among the participants were European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Polish President Karol Nawrocki, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff would also be present.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also told reporters that Trump had a “lengthy” conversation with Zelensky on the plane on the way back to Washington after his talks with Putin.

The conversation followed the Alaska summit, where Trump met with Putin. Ukraine and its European partners were not present at the talks.
