Critical Analysis of US Venezuela Policy

247 – During a UN Security Council meeting called by Venezuela, Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia accused the United States of conducting a campaign to overthrow the Venezuelan government, using the same methods of political destabilization that marked the so-called “color revolutions”. The accusation was released by RT Brasil this Friday (10).

According to the diplomat, Caracas faces"unprecedented pressure for a military invasion" from Washington. Nebenzia reported that the United States has deployed approximately 4,000 troops, as well as destroyers, nuclear submarines, and patrol aircraft, in a move he described as provocative.

"Every day, the situation becomes more serious. What is this? Preparation for an invasion or just military training?" he asked."We might believe the latter if we weren't talking about a sovereign state, whose regime overthrow is openly mentioned by high-ranking US officials as a foreign policy goal," he stated.

Criticism of the “Cartels of the Sun” narrative

Nebenzia also mocked the U.S. argument that alleged"Sun Cartels," linked to the Venezuelan government, were trafficking drugs to the United States. The diplomat stated that this is"a fiction worthy of a Hollywood movie," unsupported by facts or concrete data.

“The White House can, of course, reject the UN data, but the State Department’s own official reports make no mention of the ‘sun cartels,’” he declared.

Based on official data, Nebenzia noted that most of the cocaine arriving in the United States enters via the Pacific Ocean—a sea route Venezuela doesn't even have access to. He also highlighted that the topic only began to be mentioned in US reports"a few months ago," which, he said, highlights the artificial nature of the narrative.

“Beginning of the Wild West”

Russian diplomacy also denounced what it called"summary executions" carried out by US forces on the high seas. Moscow criticized attacks on vessels suspected of trafficking, in which"the entire crew was executed without investigation or trial."

"Vessels carrying people were simply attacked on the high seas, without investigation or trial, following the Wild West principle of shooting first," the Russian representative said.

For Nebenzia, these actions demonstrate the logic of “American exceptionalism,” in which the United States allows itself to act freely, while other countries can only do what Washington authorizes.

Attempted “color revolution”

Moscow has called recent operations and political pressure against Caracas part of an “open campaign” aimed at undermining the Venezuelan government and installing a regime aligned with Washington’s interests.

"Venezuela is the target of the traditional tools of color revolutions, which have already caused suffering to various populations around the world," Russian diplomacy denounced.

For the Russian government, the United States' objective is clear:"to overthrow a government they do not like" and reaffirm its influence in Latin America through methods of military, economic, and psychological coercion.
