“Congress attacks Lula because it wants to protect the rich,” says Valter Pomar

Wednesday, July 2

247 – During his participation in the program Contramola, on TV 247, PT leader Valter Pomar harshly criticized the actions of the National Congress, which in his opinion has been trying to usurp the prerogatives of the Executive and suffocate the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. According to Pomar, the recent defeat of the Planalto in the vote on the IOF taxation exposed what he called a “parliamentary offensive”.

“Congress wants to protect the rich,” he said. “They want to establish parliamentarism illegally, unconstitutionally. They want to prevent the government from governing.”

Pomar argued that the government should appeal to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to reverse the approved Legislative Decree Project (PDL), but warned that judicialization, in itself, is insufficient given the gravity of the situation.

“We have to go to the Supreme Court, but we can’t stop there. We have to mobilize the population, call a rally, publicly denounce Congress,” he said. “If we don’t escalate now, it will be too late.”

According to him, the Executive needs to abandon the strategy of seeking agreements with forces that, in the end, sabotage the government itself. To this end, he proposes a direct confrontation with the Legislative, which he classified as an “enemy of the people.”

“We are being betrayed by those who hold office and vote against the country. This is blackmail by those who do not want to negotiate anything — who want to defeat us.”

In the leader's view, the current Congress represents a political minority that does not correspond to the popular support of the Lula government. He cited as an example the opinion polls, which show support rates for the president much higher than the vote base obtained in the votes in the Legislature.

“Congress has 378 crooks. If we think that, then let’s put 400,000 people on the streets to hear Lula say it directly to the people.”

At the end of the program, Pomar summarized his proposal: to confront conservative sectors, abandon illusions of governability with this composition of Congress and act in a manner consistent with the minority status in Parliament. For him, the government needs to enter “campaign mode” and mobilize society.

“We either enter campaign mode now, or we will arrive defeated in 2026,” he concluded. Watch:
