Fernández Noroña's Commentary

Mexico City. Coming out in defense of Morena's coordinator in the Senate, Adán Augusto López Hernández, the president of the upper house, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, assured that the cases of his coreligionist and Hernán Bermúdez are not comparable with that of Genaro García Luna and former president Felipe Calderón.

As a distinguishing factor, he said that García Luna is in prison, has confessed, and has been sentenced."In other words, it will take some time for that to happen with this other official and for there to be real evidence to determine whether there is legal, not political, responsibility on the part of comrade Adán Augusto López Hernández."

At a press conference, he insisted that these are"brutally different" cases, as the case against the former Secretary of Federal Security has already concluded and he was sentenced in a United States court, so no one can claim it was political persecution.

Fernández Noroña also denounced the media campaign against his coordinator, in which he has already been prosecuted and sentenced immediately.

As part of that"blow," he estimated that "La Barredora" has become a large criminal group. I mean, who had ever heard of La Barredora? Nobody! I mean, at the local level, at best. At the national level, that hadn't been reported. And now it's the large criminal group, which, man, I think is more dangerous than El Chapo, he joked.

He considered López Hernández to be a"great political operator" and would continue to do his job "unless conclusive evidence against him comes to light, which I don't see at this time."

He thus ruled out leaving the coordination of the Morena senators, although he emphasized that smear campaigns are exhausting.

He estimated that the Tabasco native's leadership is intact, but that doesn't mean the beating isn't taking its toll,"because it's not as if he were made of rubber."

Fernández Noroña stated that the official bears political responsibility for what his team does, although he later qualified the matter by emphasizing that in the López Hernández controversy, he would bear political responsibility based on the sentencing of the person who is currently a fugitive.
