One source emphasized that although economic issues are secondary to Putin, the dictator understands Russia's economic vulnerability and realizes that continuing the war will require much more resources.

According to Russian sources, Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, played a key role in arranging the Alaska meeting. On August 6, Witkoff made it clear during a meeting with Putin that all sides were ready to compromise, and Putin also outlined the concessions he was willing to make in exchange for peace.

One Kremlin source has expressed the opinion that if Russia and Ukraine can reach an agreement, then various options for a formal peace treaty are possible, such as a trilateral agreement between Russia, Ukraine and the United States, which would later be approved by the UN Security Council.
