Zelensky's Stance on Territorial Integrity

Reuters: Zelensky rejected Putin's demands

As reported by Reuters, Donald Trump stated on Saturday after the summit in Alaska that Ukraine should reach an agreement to end the war with Russia because"Russia is a very big power, and they are not". Vladimir Putin allegedly demanded Ukrainian lands during the talks. The source told the agency that the American president said the Russian leader proposed freezing most of the front line if Kyiv's forces surrendered all of Donbas. Zelensky, according to the source, rejected Putin's demands. As described by Reuters, Russia already controls one-fifth of Ukraine's territory, including about three-quarters of the Donetsk region, which it first entered in 2014. Furthermore, Trump also reportedly stated that he had agreed with Putin on the need to pursue a peace agreement without first concluding a ceasefire. This is what Ukraine and its European allies have been demanding so far.

Zelensky will meet with Trump in Washington

A meeting between Zelensky and Donald Trump has been scheduled for Monday in Washington. The Ukrainian president will fly to Washington for consultations on trilateral talks in the Ukraine-United States-Russia format. Reuters reports that Zelensky is flying to the US to agree to a quick end to the war with Russia, but at the same time with a determination to defend Kyiv's interests"while avoiding another sharp confrontation with Trump in the Oval Office."

Behind the scenes of the US-Russia summit

The Ukrainian president spoke with Trump as he was returning from Alaska aboard Air Force One. The two presidents once again emphasized that territorial issues cannot be resolved without Ukraine. According to UNIAN, Zelenskyy reportedly told the US president in a phone call that Washington should impose sanctions on Russia if Putin torpedoes such talks. Regarding security guarantees, Zelenskyy added that the United States and European countries should be guarantors. Trump returned to Washington after failing to reach an agreement on Ukraine with Vladimir Putin during a summit in Alaska. The talks lasted approximately three hours.
