US talks with Russia aimed at ending Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine ended the way most people expected – with Vladimir Putin saying vaguely nice things about his American guests but doing very little.

Russian envoy Yuri Ushakov said there were no “compromises” from Moscow meaning a peace deal is little closer.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later said “it wouldn’t be correct” to say Putin had rejected the US peace plan – but it was hardly a ringing endorsement.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said some “progress” had been made in ending Russia’s war.

Meanwhile, an out there rant by Donald Trump about Somalis in Americans has left one prominent immigrant unimpressed.

The US president said Somalians were “garbage” who he didn’t want in the country. He also hit out at Democratic politician Ilhan Omar who came to the US as a refugee from Somalia.

“His obsession with me is creepy,” she said in response to Mr Trump.
