The Russian military launched dozens of Shahid attack drones into the Ukrainian capital Kiev on Friday night. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the Russian military also deployed at least one hypersonic missile in the attack on Kiev. A large part of Kiev residents spent the night in the metro, Reuters reported, TASR reports.
According to the head of the Kyiv city military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, the drone attacks took place in 13 locations in five city districts on both banks of the Dnieper River, which divides the city. The airstrikes lasted for more than four hours and caused fires in many places.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that according to preliminary information, there were no serious damages or casualties as a result of the fire. However, at least 19 people were injured, the mayor of the Ukrainian capital announced. In a status on the Telegram network, he added that 14 injured people were taken to hospital, the British BBC and the DPA agency reported, TASR writes.
Tkachenko added that many of the targets were residential buildings. Eyewitnesses told Reuters they heard a series of explosions and continuous fire from air defenses trying to shoot down the drones. “The attacks do not stop,” Tkachenko wrote on the Telegram platform. “There are many targets over Kiev. We are neutralizing Russian drones in all districts.”
