JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto asked the public to remain calm and place their trust in the government in dealing with the current situation in the country.
He emphasized that the government he leads is committed to fighting for the interests of the people, especially small and disadvantaged groups.
"I ask all citizens to trust the government and to remain calm. The government I lead is committed to always fighting for the interests of the people, including the poorest and most disadvantaged," Prabowo said in a press statement at the Presidential Palace on Sunday (August 31, 2025).
Prabowo also called on the public to maintain national unity and express their aspirations peacefully.
According to him, anarchic actions will only harm the people themselves.
"Let's maintain national unity. Indonesia is on the verge of a revival. Don't let us be pitted against each other. Voice your aspirations peacefully," Prabowo said.
"No rioting, no looting, no damage to public facilities. If we damage public facilities, it's a waste of public money," he added.
The Head of State also warned of the potential for interference from certain groups who do not want Indonesia to rise and prosper.
"We are vigilant against interference from groups that do not want Indonesia to prosper and rise. We will correct the shortcomings in our government and our country," he stressed.
Prabowo closed his statement by calling for the spirit of mutual cooperation as inherited from the nation's founders.
"The spirit of our ancestors is mutual cooperation. Let's work together to protect our environment, our families, and our country. We are constantly being interfered with; we must not be pitted against each other," he added.
