Hamas Response and Position

On Monday, Israel issued what it described as a"final warning" to Hamas: Release the hostages and surrender weapons, or Gaza will be destroyed and the movement will be eliminated.

In Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem, a shooting left six people dead and others injured, according to Israeli authorities and medical sources.

In the Gaza Strip, Civil Defense reported that at least 16 people were killed in Israeli bombing.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened to destroy Gaza and eliminate Hamas unless it surrendered, shortly after the US president issued a similar warning to the movement.

"This is a final warning to Hamas's murderers and rapists, whether in Gaza or in luxury hotels abroad: Release the hostages and lay down your weapons, or Gaza will be destroyed and you will be eliminated," Katz said on the X platform.

According to the Israeli military, 47 people are still being held in Gaza, 25 of whom have died, out of 251 people kidnapped during Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

US President Donald Trump said in a post on Sunday on his Truth Social platform,"The Israelis have accepted my terms. It's time for Hamas to accept them as well. I warned Hamas of the consequences of not accepting," he continued,"This is my final warning."

Hours later, the Palestinian movement indicated in a statement that it had"received, through mediators, some ideas from the American side to reach a ceasefire agreement."

It affirmed that it was "ready to immediately sit at the negotiating table to discuss the release of all prisoners in exchange for a clear declaration of an end to the war, a complete (Israeli) withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and the formation of a committee to administer the Gaza Strip from independent Palestinians, which would assume its work immediately."

Israel has so far refused to declare a ceasefire. It recently approved a plan to take full control of Gaza City and maintain security control over the entire Strip.

Although the Hebrew state has not officially announced the start of a large-scale attack on Gaza City, the Strip's largest city has been witnessing intensified shelling and military operations for weeks.

- Attack in Jerusalem -

In the aftermath of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip between Hamas and Israel, which has lasted more than 23 months, two attackers opened fire on Monday at a bus station at the entrance to the Ramot neighborhood in East Jerusalem, according to Israeli police, who said they were able to contain them.

Hamas welcomed the attack, which it said was carried out by two Palestinians.

"We affirm that this operation is a natural response to the crimes of the occupation and the war of extermination it is waging against our people," she added in a statement.

"Let it be clear: these crimes strengthen our resolve to fight terrorism," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters at the site of the shooting.

Far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich accused the Palestinian Authority of the"horrific" attack, saying it was"raising and teaching its children to kill Jews."

"The Palestinian Authority must disappear from the map, and the villages from which the attackers came must face the same fate as Rafah and Beit Hanoun," he said via X, referring to Gaza cities devastated by Israeli airstrikes.

Germany, France, and the European Union condemned the most violent attack since the start of the war in Gaza.

-"What is their fault?" -

This week, the army began issuing evacuation notices for high-rise buildings in Gaza City, accusing Hamas of using them for military purposes, a charge the Palestinian movement denies. On Sunday, it destroyed a residential tower, the third in three days.

Images from Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City (north) showed Palestinians mourning relatives killed in airstrikes targeting tents for displaced people, including women weeping near the bodies of two girls, aged two and five.

Nearby, a man was touching the face of his one-year-old child, who was wrapped in a white shroud.

"Children are dying, what is their fault? A one-year-old child, what is his fault?" said the child's grandfather, Hazem Issa.

The Israeli army controls approximately 75 percent of the Gaza Strip and 40 percent of Gaza City. According to United Nations estimates, approximately one million people live in the city and its surrounding areas.

-"graveyard" -

The Israeli army called on Gaza City residents to evacuate and head to the Mawasi area (south), which it declared a"humanitarian zone" months ago. However, it continues to be subjected to frequent, heavy artillery shelling. Palestinians also say there is no room there for additional tents.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk expressed concern over what he described as the explicit"genocidal rhetoric" emanating from Israeli officials regarding Gaza, warning that the Strip had effectively become a"graveyard" and calling for decisive international action to "end the massacre."

In Spain, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced a series of measures to"end the genocide in Gaza," including a ban on arms sales to Israel and a ban on ships carrying fuel for the Israeli military from using the country's ports.

Israel responded strongly, with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar accusing Madrid of anti-Semitism, a claim Madrid rejected, stating that it"will not submit to intimidation in its defense of peace, international law, and human rights."

Hamas's attack on the Jewish state resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.

Israel responded by declaring war, and Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip resulted in 64,522 deaths, most of them civilians, according to figures from the Gaza Ministry of Health that the United Nations considers reliable.
