The alleged attacker of Anna Maria Valsecchi, the manager of Finlombarda, who was stabbed at 9 am in Piazza Gae Aulenti in Milan , was arrested this evening. The man was identified by the Carabinieri of the operational unit in a hotel, not far from the Central Station. His position is being examined by investigators to verify whether he is the man filmed by the video surveillance cameras. The arrested man is a 59-year-old born in Bergamo, located after almost 11 hours thanks to his sister twin, who recognized him from the images released by investigators. The man had apparently been staying at the hotel for a few days, after being turned away from a rehabilitation community in the Varese area. The 59-year-old was found wearing clothes matching those worn during the attack. An initial reconstruction has revealed no connection between the victim and the attacker, who was found to be the perpetrator of a similar incident in 2015.

In the images of the attack, the man was wearing a blue jacket, K-way style, dark trousers, a bag in his right hand and a backpack over his shoulders. He was captured by a surveillance camera a few moments before striking the blows and immediately afterwards, while he was fleeing without running after leaving the 43-year-old woman, director of the credit stipulation and disbursement office of the Lombardy Region finance company, lying on the ground with a knife stuck in her shoulders.

For hours the Carabinieri tried to give him a name and reconstruct his movements following the attempted murder of the woman, who underwent surgery at the Niguarda hospital for injuries to her spleen and lung and is now in guarded prognosis. The attack lasted just five seconds. The man, with short white hair, a blue and light blue hooded zip-up jacket, black trousers, dark trainers, a backpack on his shoulder and a green bag in his hands. The woman, wearing a light-coloured coat, with her bag and shoulder bag containing her laptop in her hands, was walking near a bicycle parking lot between two skyscrapers in the square when the man came up behind her and struck her in the back. A sharp blow, from below upward, with the left hand: so violent that it made the 43-year-old jump. The woman, surprised, tries to touch her back, where the gun remained stuck, while the man walks away at a normal pace. The escape was captured by numerous video surveillance systems in the area. Images released, with authorization from Milan's prosecutor Marcello Viola, by the Carabinieri of the provincial command.

The investigators will have to clarify, in addition to the dynamics , what the motive is for the act: the first hypothesis is that it was an attack with the victim chosen at random , but it is not currently excluded that there could be reasons related to work life , while less weight is being given at this time to the private sphere. “They stabbed me,” the woman screamed several times to the first rescuers and she was unable to indicate to the police any reasons that might have pushed someone to attack her.
