Russia strongly condemned the US attacks on nuclear sites in Iran, describing them as an"irresponsible decision" that violates the UN Charter.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday, according to the Russian news agency TASS,"Russia strongly condemns the US attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran early this morning, which followed the Israeli attacks on Iran."
She added,"The irresponsible decision to launch missile and bomb attacks on the territory of a sovereign state, regardless of the arguments used to justify it, is a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and UN Security Council resolutions, which have previously described such actions as categorically unacceptable." She called for an end to the aggression and the creation of conditions for a return to the political and diplomatic arena.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed, in statements to reporters, that"using the right of self-defense without regard for the UN Charter will lead to chaos."
US President Donald Trump announced early this morning that the United States had successfully carried out airstrikes on Iran's main nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—claiming that they were completely destroyed. However, Iranian authorities downplayed their impact.
