The storm warning applies to the entire Bratislava, Trenčín, Nitra and Trnava regions. Storms may also occur in several districts of the Banská Bystrica and Žilina regions. The warning remains in effect until Monday, when stronger storms are expected from the afternoon, especially in the east.
Meteorologists warn that the storms may be accompanied by heavy rainfall with an intensity of 20 to 30 millimeters per half hour, winds with gusts of 65 to 85 kilometers per hour, as well as hail.
Storms are expected across the entire territory on Monday, with the strongest ones expected in the east.
On Monday, storms should subside in western Slovakia, while a warning is in effect throughout the day in the rest of the country. Stronger storms should be in the east from noon, and hail may fall there. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informs about this on its website. In addition to storms, heat and wind in mountainous areas should be expected, especially in the east.
The SHMÚ issued a second-level storm warning for the entire Prešov and Košice regions on Monday afternoon. The first-level storm warning lasts from midnight to 12:00, and from noon to 8:00 p.m. it will change to the second level. Strong storms can be associated with heavy downpours with an intensity of 30 to 40 millimeters per half hour, with wind gusts of 70 to 110 kilometers per hour and with hail with a diameter of about two centimeters. In the Žilina region, the first-level storm warning lasts until 8:00 p.m., in the Nitra and Trenčín regions until 6:00 p.m. In the Bratislava and Trnava regions, the storm warning is issued until Monday, 6:00 a.m.
Meteorologists have issued high temperature warnings for eastern Slovakia only on Monday. They are to last from 12:00 to 16:00. In the districts of Sobrance, Michalovce and Trebišov, the second level applies, the temperature can reach 35 degrees Celsius, the warning lasts here until 17:00.
A first-level warning for wind in the mountains is in effect from midnight until Monday 8 p.m. in the districts of Tvrdošín, Ružomberok, Liptovský Mikuláš, Poprad, Banská Bystrica and Brezno. In the mountains above the forest belt, wind gusts can reach speeds of 110 to 135 kilometers per hour.
