"We respect the position of Ukrainians": Zelensky agreed on the text of the new draft law on NABU and SAPO

A draft law on labor has been agreed and will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine today. NABU and SAPO, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"I have just approved the text of the draft law, which guarantees the real strengthening of the law and order system in Ukraine, the independence of anti-corruption bodies, as well as reliable protection of the law and order system from any Russian influence or interference," he wrote in Telegram. At the same time, he notes that the text is balanced.

"The most important thing is real tools, no Russian connections, and the independence of NABU and SAPO. The draft law will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine today," the head of state noted.

He emphasizes the importance of preserving unity and independence."It is important that we respect the position of all Ukrainians and are grateful to everyone who is with Ukraine," Zelensky notes.

The text of the draft law is currently not available for review.

The situation with NABU and SAPO - latest news

As UNIAN reported, on July 22, the Verkhovna Rada voted for the law, which caused protests in Kyiv and a number of cities This is Bill No. 12414, which grants certain powers to the Prosecutor General's Office regarding the work of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP).

Protesters urged Zelensky not to sign it. It was noted that the adopted law deprives the NABU and SAPO of their independence in investigating corruption. Zelensky signed it on the day the law was adopted.

After criticism of the decision from European partners, work began on a new draft law that should correct the situation.
