JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Head of the Earthquake and Tsunami Mitigation Center of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Daryono revealed that tsunami caused by the earthquake in Russia has been detected in a number of regions in Indonesia.

Daryono conveyed this in a virtual press conference with BNPB, Wednesday (30/7/2025).

"The results of monitoring our tsunami gauge equipment recorded nine gates related to areas that we said had the potential for a tsunami with a warning threat of less than half a meter. So here are the results of our monitoring," said Daryono.

Daryono explained that there were 8 points in the region where a tsunami was detected as a result of the Russian earthquake.

The highest tsunami height was only 20 centimeters or 0.2 meters.

This height is lower than the initial prediction of 50 centimeters.

"In Jayapura or at Dok II, we recorded a tsunami height of only 20 cm or 0.2 meters. Then in Central Halmahera or at Tapaleo Port, the tsunami height was only 6 cm. Then in Sarmi, Papua, 20 cm. Then in Sorong, 20 cm. In Jayapura, 20 cm. In Sausapor, West Papua, 20 cm," he said.

"And in Talaud it was 5 cm. And in Morotai it was 8 cm. Meanwhile in Gorontalo there were no sea level anomalies, meaning no tsunami activity was recorded there at all," added Daryono.

Previously, an 8.7 magnitude earthquake rocked the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia, Wednesday (30/7/2025) morning.

The analysis results of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) show that the earthquake has the potential to cause a tsunami in 10 regions of Indonesia with alert status or a height of less than 0.5 meters.

The tsunami is estimated to arrive in the afternoon or evening local time.

"The earthquake has the potential to cause a tsunami in the Indonesian region with alert status," said Daryono, Director of Earthquake and Tsunami at the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), in a statement released by the agency.

The ten regions are:

1. Talaud (ETA 14:52:24 WITA).
