KOMPAS.com - The reputation of Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the shooting of Charlie Kirk, has surprised many people.

A figure previously known for his quiet and high-achieving demeanor is now facing serious charges as the perpetrator of the shooting of a conservative activist in Utah.

Robinson, 22, was arrested after being on the run for more than 30 hours. His arrest involved his family reporting his whereabouts to police.

This case raises big questions about the personal changes of an engineering student who was well known in his neighborhood.

Neighbors, teachers, and family described Robinson as polite, diligent, and rarely in trouble. That image contrasts with his new status as a suspect in a political shooting.

Had a reputation as a good kid

His grandmother, Debbie Robinson, said she was not aware her grandson was attending Charlie Kirk's event.

"He's a really clean kid," Debbie said, as quoted by NBC, Friday (12/9/2025).

Neighbor Kristin Schwiermann, who had known her since elementary school, also expressed a similar impression.

"He was very attentive, calm and polite," Schwiermann said.

"He's a good kid," he added.

Another family friend insisted the Robinsons were not political or religious.

"They are good, simple, and pleasant people," the source said.

Achieving success since school

Robinson was known as an outstanding student in school. He graduated with perfect grades and was active in advanced classes.

His family often shares photos and his achievements on social media.

Robinson once received a full scholarship from Utah State University. In a video shared by his family, he can be seen proudly reading his acceptance letter.
