An attack launched early Saturday morning by the Russian army has left at least one dead and 23 injured in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, in the east of the country, according to local authorities and later confirmed by the country's president, Voldymir Zelensky.

The attack hit two five-story buildings and five single-family homes, Ukrainian regional administration chief Ivan Fedorov reported on Telegram. Zelensky, for his part, reported on his X account that children were among the injured.

The Zaporizhia bombing comes less than 48 hours after a massive Russian attack in the capital, Kyiv, left 23 dead. Ukraine's president has called Russian President Vladimir Putin's actions a total disregard for words amid international mediation efforts.

For Zelensky, it is absolutely clear that Moscow has used the time allocated to preparing a meeting between the two leaders to actually organize new massive attacks.

The president recently denounced a new wave of widespread Russian attacks in the Volyn, Dnipro, Donetsk, Yitomir, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Rivne, Sumi, Kharkiv, Khmelnitsky, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi and Chernihiv regions, particularly against civilian infrastructure, using approximately 540 drones, eight ballistic missiles and 37 types of cruise missiles.

Ukrainian response

For its part, the Ukrainian Army announced this Saturday that it has attacked two refineries in the Russian territories of Krasnodar, located on the shores of the Black Sea, and Samara, in the southwest of the country, in a new offensive against Russia's energy infrastructure.

The Ukrainian Army General Staff said in a statement that Ukrainian forces used drones to attack the Krasnodarsky oil refinery in the Krasnodar Territory and the Sizranski oil refinery in the Samara region.

Shortly after, the Russian operational headquarters for the Krasnodar region reported on its Telegram account that a fire had broken out at an industrial facility as a result of falling debris from Ukrainian drones.

The flames have affected an area of approximately 300 square meters, according to a statement from the headquarters, without providing further details about the company's identity. Its employees were evacuated, and there are no reports of casualties so far.

The Krasnodar refinery produces three million tons of light petroleum products annually, primarily gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, and supplies the Russian Armed Forces. The Sizransky refinery produces gasoline, diesel, jet kerosene, fuel oil, and bitumen.

Fire near Putin's palace

In the Krasnodar region, on the Black Sea, there is a luxurious residence attributed to Putin, but with which the Russian president denies having any connection. There is no indication that the fire directly threatens Putin's palace, which the Russian authorities have never mentioned in their various statements.

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died suddenly in prison, published an investigation in 2021 in which he accused Vladimir Putin of being the owner of this immense estate located in a tourist area on the shores of the Black Sea.

According to the investigation, this luxurious complex, financed with funds from corruption, also includes vineyards, an ice hockey stadium, and a casino.
