At least six people have been killed and 10 others injured, five of them seriously, in an armed attack by two Palestinians at the busy Ramot crossing, not far from one of the entrances to Jerusalem. Among the dead was Yaacov Pinto, a 25-year-old Spanish Jew from Melilla who lived in Israel, where he had recently married.
According to initial reports, the two terrorists arrived by car to the area, which was crowded, and opened fire on the bus line 62. A citizen, who was armed, and a soldier neutralized them.
"I heard several bursts of gunfire that lasted an eternity. In the first moments, I sought cover while the terrorists fired until there was silence. I have witnessed several attacks, but this one was very serious," admits Avi Toledano about one of the worst attacks in recent years in Jerusalem, which has been applauded by Hamas.
Just after 10 a.m., paramedic Ohev Yashu was in this area in the north of the city when he heard gunshots."Upon reaching bus number 62, we neutralized the terrorists and gave immediate assistance to those wounded by bullets. Children, the elderly, a terrible murder," he said at the intersection, which was immediately closed in both directions.
While ambulances evacuated the wounded, police sealed off the area due to the possibility of accomplices while the investigation began. The two attackers came from two villages in the Ramallah area of the West Bank, just a few kilometers away, which were surrounded by the army after the attack.
"We are in an intense war on several fronts (...) These assassinations, these attacks on all fronts only increase our determination to complete our missions in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and everywhere. We are fighting against terror, against Hamas, the terrorist regime of the Houthis, of Iran that supports everyone, in Gaza, against Hezbollah," said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the scene of this morning's attack.
According to security sources consulted by EL MUNDO, Shabak (Israeli security service) has foiled around 1,000 attacks (armed attacks, planting explosives, etc.) so far this year. This is an increase compared to 2024, when security agencies foiled 1,040 attacks.
