No, Rimas Kurtinaitis does not ask ChatGPT during the match when to bench Jonas Valančiūnas.
An algorithm is not consciousness, numbers are not a mirror of a person.
But both can be used wisely.
This is also done in sports - from figure skating to basketball.
"The topic of artificial intelligence is being discussed in coaching seminars, and it is gradually entering our work environment - especially among younger coaches. I wouldn't say that artificial intelligence is already being widely used, but there are such attempts. I have no doubt that in the future it will be the daily routine of coaches," said Andrius Ulčickas, who is responsible for scouting Lithuanian opponents at the European Basketball Championship.
The 29-year-old specialist has been helping the national team since last year, joining together with R. Kurtinaitis' assistant Mantas Šernius.
With the latter, this summer A. Ulčickas moved from the Jonava club to Kaunas Žalgiris.
At the request of the national champions, M. Šernius remained in Lithuania to assist his new boss Tomas Masiulis in preparing the team for the upcoming season. But A. Ulčickas was allowed to work with the national team.
He is preparing a data package about opponents together with his colleague from Panevėžys “Lietkabelis” Paulius Malašauskas, who previously also worked in Jonava.
Sometimes they also consult with artificial intelligence.
