Following the signals of support sent by the IMF after the electoral defeat, Javier Milei ratified this Tuesday that he will not change the economic direction of his Government and assured that he will maintain the band scheme for the exchange rate."We will not move one millimeter from the program," said the President, who shared the statement from the International Monetary Fund on his social networks.
"As I stated on Sunday, we will not budge one inch from our economic program," Milei wrote Tuesday afternoon, echoing his Sunday speech following the defeat in the Buenos Aires elections.
He also outlined the key points he will maintain during his administration."(1) Fiscal balance; (2) a tight monetary market; and (3) with regard to foreign exchange, the exchange rate bands agreed upon with the IMF will remain in place," the president stated. He added:"Furthermore, we will continue to deregulate. VLLC!"

"IMF staff is working closely with the Argentine authorities in implementing its program to strengthen stability and improve the country's growth prospects," said IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack.
"We support their commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the program's exchange rate and monetary framework, as well as their continued adherence to the fiscal anchor and the comprehensive deregulation agenda," Kozack added.
The IMF's message also indicates support for the government's policy of having the Treasury intervene in the foreign exchange market"to contribute to its liquidity and normal functioning."
Consulting firms estimate that the Treasury sold more than US$500 million in the week leading up to the Buenos Aires elections, more than half (US$285 million) on Friday alone.
They estimate that the economic team still has around US$1.1 billion to intervene should the dollar seek the band's ceiling again.
The IMF's message was echoed by the majority of the economic team: Caputo, Federico Furiase, Felipe Núñez, and Martín Vaulthier (the"three anchors"), Finance Secretary Pablo Quirno, and Central Bank President Santiago Bausili.

Deregulation Minister Federico Sturzenegger also echoed the President's tweet and supported the announcement of further deregulation. He did so with a graph showing the number of deregulations the government has implemented since taking office, using the enactment of the Bases Law as a reference.
Milei's statements are in line with what Caputo had tweeted after La Libertad Avanza's defeat in the Buenos Aires elections was announced:"Nothing will change economically. Not fiscally, not monetaryly, not foreign exchange."
