26 countries are ready to contribute security guarantees after a ceasefire in Ukraine, according to French President Macron.
One of them is Sweden.
– 26 countries have committed to becoming part of security forces, whether on land, at sea or in the air, says Macron.
French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj hold a press conference in Paris, after the summit on how to stop the Russian war of aggression.
The French president announces there that security guarantees are"clear" for Ukraine.
26 countries have said they are ready to contribute troops"on land, at sea and in the air".
These security guarantees will only come into effect after a possible ceasefire with Russia.
Sweden is one of the 26 countries, something Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said earlier on Thursday.
The exact form of the Swedish support has not been communicated, nor when or how this will be relevant.
A total of 35 countries have signed up to the “Coalition of the Willing”, with nine countries so far only participating politically and economically.
The purpose of the security guarantees is to “reassure the Ukrainian people and maintain the ceasefire once it is implemented, as well as to maintain and guarantee peace.”
Macron: We have spoken with Trump
Macron also says that the leaders have spoken with Trump and that the conclusions are "very simple" and that they will finalize plans for American support in the coming days.
President Trump has not yet commented on the alleged US promises to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy says the intention is to “end this war as soon as possible” so that diplomatic talks can begin.
He also believes that long-term security guarantees are necessary to avoid repeating the mistakes of previous peace guarantees from Russia.
“A strong Ukrainian military is the central foundation for security guarantees,” he says.
According to the two leaders, the framework for security guarantees is ready, and now it is up to individual countries what they can contribute.
“The key to ending the war”
At the same time, the Ukrainian president is calling on Europe to increase the pace of its weapons production.
The summit also called for new economic sanctions against Russia.
“The key to ending the war is to deprive the Russian war machine of resources,” Zelenskyy said.
For a ceasefire, and later peace, to be possible, they believe that new summits must be planned, but that Putin is doing everything he can to slow it down.
Zelensky also dismisses Putin's invitation to come to Moscow, calling it typical of Putin to offer something that is impossible to accept.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb said later on Thursday that in his conversation with Trump, the US president insisted that the US and Europe coordinate further sanctions against Russia's oil and gas, according to Reuters.
The details of this will be worked out by EU chief Ursula von der Leyen and Trump's closest advisors, according to Stubb.
