On Sunday, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas warned that any agreement between Washington and Moscow on the war in Ukraine must include both Kiev and the bloc. Kallas said that “the United States has the power to force Russia to negotiate seriously. Any agreement between the United States and Russia must include Ukraine and the EU, because it is a matter of security for Ukraine and for the whole of Europe,” Reuters notes.
The EU official stressed that"international law is clear" and that "all temporarily occupied territories belong to Ukraine."
"An agreement must not be a launching pad for new Russian aggression against Ukraine, the transatlantic alliance and Europe," she added.
The EU foreign policy chief's call comes as Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will meet in Alaska on August 15. Confirming the meeting between the two, Trump said that the peace agreement between Moscow and Kiev would most likely include"certain territorial exchanges."
Zelensky: Ukrainians will not give up their territory
After the Trump-Putin meeting was announced, Zelensky said on Saturday that Ukraine cannot violate the constitution regarding territorial issues, adding that"Ukrainians will not cede their territory to the occupiers."
He also added that any solution that does not include Kiev would be against peace.
