During talks, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the American delegation discussed the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO. Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters this. He stated that Ukraine's accession to the alliance is a key issue in the settlement negotiations.
On December 2, talks were held in the Kremlin between Putin, US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Whitkoff, and the US president's son-in-law, businessman Jared Kushner. Ushakov reported that during the meeting, the participants discussed the US plan for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, as well as four other documents on this topic transferred to Russia. The meeting lasted nearly five hours.
On November 26, CNN reported that Ukraine had rejected three key points of the settlement for Russia: the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas, limiting the size of the Ukrainian army to 600,000 troops, and abandoning its intention to join NATO. European Council President António Costa also stated that all points concerning the European Union and NATO had been deleted from the plan finalized by Ukraine's allies.
