The Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam) reported in its most recent statement that Hurricane Melissa, currently a Category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, continues to influence the atmospheric and maritime conditions of the Colombian Caribbean, despite being located south of Jamaica.

According to the report, the cyclone is moving slowly with sustained winds of up to 277 kilometers per hour, with a central pressure of 909 millibars. Its movement northwest at a speed of approximately 3.7 kilometers per hour is causing indirect impacts on the national maritime territory.
Hurricane Melissa is currently moving across Jamaica after making landfall this afternoon.
