Due to the tragedy that happened in Sremska Mitrovica and care for a large number of injured, an extraordinary voluntary blood donation action will be held on Saturday, 18. October 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the premises of the Red Cross Sremska Mitrovica (Arsenija Čarnojevića 17).

The Red Cross says:" We are asking all citizens who are able to respond to the call."

On the road Jarak - Sremska Mitrovica, today around 2:45 p.m., a serious traffic accident took place in which a bus transporting Healthcare factory workers from Ruma ran off the road and overturned into a canal by the road.

At the time of the accident, there were about 83 passengers in the bus. According to initial information, two people died, while 35 passengers were injured.

Fire and rescue teams, police and a large number of ambulances immediately arrived at the scene.

The evacuation of all passengers was completed around 4:00 p.m., and everyone was transported to the General Hospital of Sremska Mitrovica, where all doctors and medical staff are on standby.

According to eyewitnesses, parts of the bus were completely deformed due to the impact on the earth embankment, and the firefighters used special equipment to pull out the trapped passengers.

An additional problem in the first minutes after the accident was the bicycle race that took place on the part of the road between Sremska Mitrovica and Jarko, which temporarily blocked traffic and slowed down the arrival of emergency vehicles.

Traffic on this section is completely stopped, and the police are redirecting vehicles to detour routes through Laćarak and Martince.

The duty prosecutor of the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Sremska Mitrovica is also at the scene of the accident, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Ministry of Interior has announced

According to the latest announcement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, two people died in the accident, while around 35 injured were transferred to the hospital in Mitrovica, and one person was transported to the Clinical Center of Vojvodina in Novi Sad due to serious injuries.

The director of the General Hospital, the director of the Health Center and the mayor of Sremska Mitrovica Branislav Nedimović, who coordinate activities for the care of the injured, are also on the premises of the hospital.

The accident happened near the former"Matroz" factory, at the exit from Sremska Mitrovica.

As Kurir wrote, the police detained a man (70), the bus driver who ran off the road on the Sremska Mitrovica-Jarak road at around 2:45 p.m. today. According to information, the driver was taken into custody to give a statement to the investigating judge, while the on-site investigation is still ongoing.
