Bolsonaro: from ineligibility to ankle bracelet in ten moments

6:45 AM Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ruled on Monday, the 21st, that the precautionary measure imposed on former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) prohibiting him from using social media also includes participation in live streams on any social media platform, including third-party accounts. The justice noted that the former president could be arrested if he fails to comply with the court order.

According to Estadão/Broadcast , after the decision, Bolsonaro withdrew from an interview he was going to give to journalists this afternoon in the Chamber of Deputies.

In a ruling published in the records of inquiry 14,129/DF, which investigates an alleged attempt to obstruct justice by Jair Bolsonaro, Moraes clarifies that the ban on the use of social media includes 'the transmission, retransmission or broadcasting of audio, videos or transcripts of interviews on any third-party social media platforms'.

According to the minister, if Bolsonaro uses any of these means to 'circumvent the measure', he will be punished with 'immediate arrest'.

This Friday, the 18th, Moraes decreed a series of restrictive measures against the former president, under the"concrete risk of flight." Bolsonaro began wearing an electronic ankle bracelet and is banned from accessing social media. He will not be able to communicate with his son, Eduardo, nor with foreign diplomats or ambassadors.

In addition, he must remain under house arrest from 7 pm to 7 am on weekdays and throughout the weekend.

Moraes forwarded the single-judge decision on Friday morning, the 18th, to the 1st Chamber of the Supreme Federal Court for approval. Justices Flávio Dino, Cristiano Zanin, and Carmém Lúcia voted to support the rapporteur's decision. Justice Luiz Fux has not yet commented.
