247 - President Lula (PT) criticized this Thursday (17) the justification given by the North American president, Donald Trump, who announced a 50% tariff on Brazilian exports on the 9th. In a letter to the PT member, the head of the White House defended Jair Bolsonaro and cited the investigation into the coup plot to launch the trade war against Brazil.
"This is absurd. The one who will convict Bolsonaro is not the president of the Republic. It's the Brazilian Supreme Court (Supreme Federal Court). He attempted a coup," Lula said at an event in Bahia."He (Trump) is not an emperor. He was elected to take care of the American people. We are the ones who take care of Brazil. The Brazilian people know how to take care of themselves," he added.
In his speech, the president recalled that, according to investigators of the coup plot, the institutional rupture plan championed by Bolsonaro supporters had as one of its objectives the assassination of Lula, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes."There was a plan to kill Lula, Alckmin, and Moraes," the Workers' Party member emphasized.
Bolsonaro is currently a defendant in the investigation into the coup plot.
