Through her X account, the representative to the United States House, María Elvira Salazar, who for years has been one of the most critical voices of the government of Gustavo Petro, once again lashed out against the Colombian president, this time because of his refusal to attend the Summit of the Americas summit amid his protests against the United States.

“Oh no, what a shame! I imagine Petro had a lot to contribute on issues like hemispheric security and the path to democracy in the continent’s tyrannies. Once again, he’s on the wrong side of history,” the Republican congresswoman said via her X account.

According to the president, his reasons for not attending were that he proposed"a CELAC/US meeting to the U.S. to study the economic integration of a greater America. There was no response, and what we have is aggression in the Caribbean, which had been established as a zone of peace. I will not attend the Summit of the Americas in the Dominican Republic. Dialogue does not begin with exclusions," he said.

Meanwhile, in another social media post, María Elvira Salazar criticized President Petro's political movement."The Colombian left is crumbling. No one wants to be affected by the disaster of the Petro administration: a Colombia that is more insecure, with more drugs, fewer opportunities, and increasingly mocked around the world. The promised"change" has turned into chaos, corruption, and international shame," the congresswoman said.
