The World's Current Take

The new Ukrainian long-range cruise missile Flamingo with a range of 3,000 km is being produced at a rate of approximately one per day, with plans to increase this figure to seven by October.

This is stated in a publication by the AR agency, whose journalists visited one of the factories of the Fire Point company, which manufactures missiles, Ukrinform reports.

As noted, this year the company completed testing of its first cruise missile, the FP-5 (Flamingo). According to independent experts, it is capable of flying 3,000 km and landing within 14 m of the target and is one of the largest missiles of this type in the world, which can carry a payload of 1,150 kg, the publication says.

Since the initial versions of the rocket were pink due to a manufacturing error, it was called Flamingo – and the name stuck, writes the AP.

According to Fire Point production manager Irina Terek, the company produces about one Flamingo missile per day. By October, the manufacturer hopes to increase capacity to produce seven missiles per day.

"Air combat is our only real asymmetric advantage on the battlefield at the moment. We don't have as many people and money as they (Russia - ed.) have," Terek said.

She also noted that Fire Point manufactures FP-1 strike drones, which can travel up to 1,600 km and have proven effective on the battlefield.

According to Terek, with a payload of 60 kg of explosives, the FP-1 is responsible for 60% of strikes deep inside Russian territory, including strikes on oil refineries and weapons depots.

The company currently produces approximately 100 drones per day at a price of $55,000 per unit.

As Ukrinform reported, Ukraine has unveiled the Flamingo long-range cruise missile with a range of 3,000 km. Its photo was published by photojournalist Yefrem Lukatsky on . In the description of the photo, he commented that the missile has already been launched into mass production. The photo was taken on August 14 in an undisclosed location. From the comment under the photo, it is known that the work was carried out by the Fire Point company.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that successful tests of the domestic Flamingo missile have already taken place, and its mass production should begin in January-February.
